For Star Trek Voyager fans: Chackotay/Seven is an almost universally hated pairing. If you have Thoughts TM on it, what are they?
I don’t like it bc I ship one or both of the characters with someone else
I don’t like it bc I read Seven as queer (before Picard era!)
I don’t like it bc it happened too suddenly/was too rushed
I don’t like it bc they don’t have chemistry/nothing in common

Hugh loves Seven. Dearly. She has a very special place in his heart and always will. Someone like him, who understood the trauma and pain he was going through. Someone who stood up for what was right.
But he worries about her. She puts herself in danger, never seeming to stop for a moment to allow herself to rest. At least, from Hugh’s point of view. Any time he knows she’s off doing some mission he holds his PADD close, anxiously awaiting any news that she’s alright.
He often loses sleep, sick with worry one day he won’t get a message from her. His friend. His dearest friend. He desperately wishes he could tell her to please slow down, please do something else that’s safer, but he knows what she’s doing is important.
He’d never stop her from pursuing something important to her just so he could worry less.
But he loves her. With everything he has, he loves her. He would willingly face reassimilation for her if it meant protecting her.
On the other hand, there’s no one else he trusts quite so much with his own life. If he was ever in danger (which he was often), he trusted she’d find a way to help him.
And, if she ever notices little bottles of water near her when she wakes up, or if she notices protein snacks or other healthy and tasty treats, that’s more than likely Hugh’s doing.
